definitly NO. for merom to work optimally u need the santa rosa platform, it will be package as centrino pro. the biggest bottleneck is infact the FSB, intel knows this so they're upping the FSB to 800mhz in santa-rosa. the performace of the macbook is great as it is, u wont see much improvement with core2duo. don't u hate the waiting game? :)

Doubtful. Many sites also reported merom being released by october and it never happened. Like I've said before though, they'll be right eventually.
But MBP will be updated first, so it'll probably be a month or two after the MBP update before we see the MB with merom.
But yeah, santa rose is gonna be much better I think. Thats where we'll see the real performance difference between C2D and CD.

in my opinion its worth it, because you are getting a 64 bit upgrade. When leopard comes out you will be able to utilize the 64 bit processor better than the 32 bit.

Not exactly true. Leopard in 32-bit will be the same as 64-bit. The only time it actually means something is if you have a 64-bit OS, chip and program. Not to mention software/driver support for 64-bit is still rather thin.

For the OP, buy when you need/want it.

The only reason the MB woudln't get Santa Rosa is if it were too hot to fit in the chassis. In which case, Apple would probably redesign it.

Apple does not and will not use the Centrino name. They can't. They, as of now do not use an Intel wireless card which is one of the three requirements of Centrino. So I doubt Centrino Pro has anything to do with Apple.

the santa rosa wont be released till april, and u might not be able to get a laptop with the santa rosa platform untill june, so it would be really Dumb if apple waited till then before they make an update to their hardware.

macbook was released in may, MBP in january. i think if apple upgraded their laptops just before the hollidays it would be the perfect time to do so.

first of all, they would compete with other brands. Second, they would release a new "product" (laptop with merom + napa) that wouldnt affect the sales of the next product (laptop with merom + santa rosa). it's 6 months away from the santa rosa.

i really think we'll have atleast one macbook with merom, and all the MBP's with merom.
