    Hi there,

I'm newbie this is my first mac I just got mine 3 days ago. I've got some questions.

    1) how much is the maximum capacity of the new battery? I'm getting 5500mAh per full charge... is this correct?

    2) "if you intend to keep your laptop plugged for a long time, remove the battery" Ok. So how do I follow this rule if the battery is built-in? ahhahaha!

    3) Apple says to recalibrate the battery once a month... but how often is it good to unplug? once a day? once a week?

    4) at what percentage should I plug the laptop back in if i'm NOT recalibrating?

    Thanks in advance.

    1) I'm not too sure...I don't look at the numbers :p.

    2) I believe this is an okay rule to follow, but also not completely necessary. In fact, in previous MacBook models, taking the battery out would underclock the processor by half, so I've just left it in. And as shown in the new notebook cases, that's not possible anymore :p.

    3) I would say once a week or so. Not too much to worry about, really...I don't even really care for my battery (in terms of how many cycles, how often to recharge, etc.) and its still good after two years (knock on wood) :p.

    4) I would say around 10%!

    1) Not sure, its 73-watt-hour and reviews say you get about 5 hours wireless.

    2) Thats a myth, you only should do that to prevent the battery from heating up, as high temperatures decrease its lifespan. But you can't so don't worry about it.

    3) Doesn't matter. You can unplug and recharge it everyday or as you need to. Recalibrating doesn't affect the lifespan of the batter, just makes your battery meter more accurate.

    4) You shouldn't drain it much below 10%, and if you do make sure you charge it up very soon because if it gets to low you could break your battery.

Its a lithium-polymer battery so if your not going to use it store it at 40% charge, wait I guess you can't :p cus its stuck in there.

I'm not a battery expert, but wouldn't re-calibration be unnecessary with the new batteries? I thought they have a chip built-into the battery than manages it, down to each individual cell?

It's necessary on even the new battery's with the chips. If you never calibrate your battery, the chip can make you system think you only have a fraction of battery left when you're on a full charge. ;)

    Thanks for the answers guys.

How much is that in mAh?

Can any of you with the New Mac Book tell me how much battery max capacity you have to start with in mAh value? It's in the System Profiler under Power :)

But when you recalibrate the battery it has to go below 10% to go to sleep mode... then you have to wait 5 hours before charging it right? Won't the batt break?

Divide the Whr number by the battery's rated voltage and you get the mAh.

And no.. Even if you discharge the battery below 0%, the battery won't break. Unless you discharge it to something like -100% or something (which is impossible due to the EC cuts off the circuit), there won't be any damage to the batttery.

The 13" MBP has a 58w battery and the 15" MBP has a 73w battery.

Can someone just tell me how many mAh their new Mac Book Pro 13" is reporting in the System Profiler instead of giving me all these formulas I don't understand? :|

How can that be? Mine reports 5300 - 5500mAh

Are you looking under "fully charged capacity"?

Can anyone else with the new 13" mac book pro tell me how much their FULLY CHARGED CAPACITY is reporting in the System Profiler?
