Hey everyone thanks for helping me to decide and get the mbp. It was shipped friday from shanghai, cn and arrived this morning. Thats some fast shipping a weekend from china to delaware east coast. Anyway I'm at work now wont be home for a few hours and the suspense is killing me. Is there anything I should do when I first get home rather then the usual? Oh and my booqbag system isnt here yet and it was shipped two days earlier heh go apple. Anyway I'll post how it is after I get home. Thanks again.

Nope just start it up. The setup wizard is quite cool. It lets you configure, transfer files from old mac (optional), e.t.c.

Congratulations on the good choice on the MBP. Which one did you get?

I got the lowest model 15" I really wanted to try the led display out and 17"s is just a bit to large for me to be carrying around. Plus this is my first mac so I wanted to start out somewhere inbetween. Was going to get the mb but I felt I would be unsatisfied as the mbp is a bit better. So I picked a happy medium and hope all will be well. I imagine it will be good to go because I havent used windows in quite sometime as Ive been using strictly linux on the most part for almost a year. Cant wait to get home.

That sounds good! I wasn't so keen on the MB either and when an unexpected bonus came I invested in the high end 15". I already had by 17" M570U so felt I didn't really need it. You should get a great deal of fun out of that great notebook!

I am excited for you, Dan...congrats! I will be in your shoes sometime soon and it will be my first Mac as well. I am interested in your experience from when you first power it up and get it up and running. You have a beautiful machine!

Which reminds me, feel free to check out the New Mac Owners section of the Mac Switcher's Guide. It may have the answer to a lot of the questions you might have, being an owner of a new Mac! :)

Got the box open and woah this is awesome even the packaging is sweet. Got everything up and running then realized I had to install leopard. Started at like and hour and something to install was done in under a half hour. Know I have to do all the preliminary stuff you suggested but so far so good. Damn sexy beast this mbp.

Congrats Dan! Mine was shipped yesterday and hopefully I'll get mine soon in a couple of days!

I was wondering whether I should just boot the leopard disc up without configuring Tiger or start it up and then put the install disc in.

    Any difference?

Well with mine I just assumed since it was new it would have leopard preinstalled and I was wrong. After I configured tiger I installed leopard and all is good and woo its so sexy. Im loving it so far.
