Hi im very much considering getting the new MBA 11" at the weekend and just wonder what sort of performance i could expect playing World Of Warcraft, i mean will it even run it, im not expecting to be able to run at full detail or anything just would like to know what to expect.

I have a main PC for proper gameing so im not interested in a gameing laptop or anything but i really want the MBA as i love the design and the fact im away from home a lot traveling i love the portabilty of it. I would appreciate any advice.

It can give u 22 fps on high only if you stare intobthe wall in the middle of nowhere. Any sort of group play like bg or raiding should run at low-mid and i mean 30fps.

I'm playing a different game, but very much like wow, and on medium settings (Which is still very enjoyable), it is quite smooth, definitely playable

Of course it will run, the question is will it be playable?

To casuals, playable means lowering resolution and settings to get a decent 25-30 fps, while to enthusiast and gamers in general, playable should be on native res and having constant 30+ fps and when moving from left to right the fps shouldn't drop and it should be smooth constantly.

The new MBA 2011 has a ULV SB cpu with a lowered downclock intel hd 3000.

Will it install WoW Cataclsym and run it? Sure no problem

Will it be playable? It's not that simple. A highly clocked intel hd 3000 paired with the fastest non ulv Sandy Bridge cpu is comparable with a Geforce 310m. Now imagine the performance of a Geforce 310m on WoW, on reviews and my own testing ran smoothly on fair settings.

There are 5 settings in WoW, Low-Fair-Good-High-Ultra.

A Geforce 310m will run it perfectly playable at fair settings and you can gain more fps when set to low settings. Remember this is at Native Res.

Now just imagine a ulv version of SB cpu paired with lowered clock intel hd 3000 and that will be slower than the entry level geforce 310m.

Look at a Vaio SA or an Asus U36jc if you're willing to cross-shop Windows machines. They don't have all the style of the Air, but they're hardly ugly machines, and they're very portable as well (once again, not quite as much as the Air, but still extremely portable). But each has a full-speed CPU and a discrete GPU, making them vastly better at running WoW or other games you might play.
