    Hi!
Does the new Macbook Pro seriously have a battery life similar to the Macbook when running on the integrated? I mean it has a bigger monitor, but I suppose the extra 5wh might balance that out? Thanks.

the website says the both get up to 5 hours of wireless productivity. so about the same, even if it is not a real world number, similar performance.

I haven't been fully able to determine what my actual battery life is, but a few minutes ago, I just unplugged my charger and it said I had 5:47 battery left. This was with a wired (Ethernet) internet connection, screen and keyboard brightness at about half. Bluetooth and Airport were off. As far as apps go, I had Pages, FireFox, iTunes, and Adium going.

But then again, I let my battery charge up and unplugged it. Under the same circumstances, it's showing "only" 4:10.

Blurb, can you try with BT and AP always on, just so I have references with equal conditions (compared to drgopoos) in both cases?

"To test, I left WiFi on, Bluetooth off, the brightness at either Level 3/16 or…at max, 8/16. I mostly used Microsoft Word, Web Browsing, Music on Itunes, and some hibernating in between. In total, I got 4:25 minutes of battery life, surpassing my expectations. If you just count the time I actually used it, the battery life would probably be a little higher than 4 hours. If you need more battery life, I am sure a secondary battery would take you into 7:30 mins easily."

from my quick impressions of base MB

OK, I just unplugged my battery. I've got WiFi and Bluetooth both as, as well as FireFox, Adium, and multiple Pages documents open. My battery is currently reading at 5:23 (94%).

One thing to note though, is that I'm sitting in a pretty dark room at the moment. So my screen is at it's lowest brightness setting, and the keyboard is up at 4 notches. But I'm guessing that if you were shooting for the absolute max battery life, you'd have the keyboard set to off.

Oh, and I also have a wired internet connection going. I don't know what kind of effect that has on battery life, but that's there as well.

EDIT: Well, after a bit of settling out, my battery just decided that it's now actually at 6:18 remaining. I'm highly impressed by it.

If you are idling (even with multiple applications open), your mac will calculate the max battery life while idling. BT and AP won't affect battery life as much as the screen brightness. When I have firefox and itunes open (but idling), my macbook shows 7+ hours of battery life when the screen is one bar away from pitch black. As soon as you start doing anything, your battery life will drop.

    Right.

Even with that taken into account, my MBP was able to get me 6 hours of battery life.

I went from 3:37AM this morning to 9:24AM (...frakking English paper).

These numbers for the macbook seem all over the 3-5 hour range. Can anyone post a real life figure of usage on a standard battery? I'd love to be able to work on a new Mac past the 4.5 hour mark.

    See my post above.

I routinely get over 4.5 hours on my new MBP.

I have always the screen brightness set to max. THis kills the battery so much. but still 3.5 hrs> this is super good.
