    Hello everyone,

My previous hard-drive has just killed itself, deleting all my valuable information from my Europe trip, and I was wondering what Hard Drive I should purchase as a replacement that hopefully won't tread the same path as my previous one. I would prefer a Firewire port with this HDD because I have a Macbook that can support it. The option I am considering is the Western Digital My Book Premium 250GB for $150 at my school.

    Thank you for your response.

$150 for a paltry 250gigs is quite expensive considering how hard disk prices have come down ... why don't u rather go for a seagate freeagent pro ... it has firewire as well as esata (apart from the regulation usb2.0) ...

    320 gigs for $132 ..
note: all three ports (esata/firewire400/usb2.0) are not present together... by default.. the usb2.0 and esata ports are screwed onto the drive... and they send a firewire400 port that can be screwed onto the hard drive if you unscrew the usb2.0/esata port... so u can't use usb2.0/esata & firewire 400 together...

anyways... the western digital hard drive is a good one as well ... another thing u might want to think about is warranty .. i dnt know how long the western digital warranty is .. but seagate has a whopping 5 yr warranty (atleast as far as their freeagent series go) ..

Thanks a lot zambie. I've narrowed it down to these two:

    Seagate FreeAgent Pro 320GB
    WD MYBOOK 250GB PRO

They both have Firewire and are relatively the same price.

I guessing the Seagate is the better choice, but I just want some other opinions.

    Thanks.

I just picked up a WD MyBook Essential 320GB for $95 today at Best Buy (on sale). They also have a 500GB versions for $127. It's a pretty good drive so far, though only USB 2.0. I wish it had Firewire, but the price was too good to pass up (as I had a $50 gift card for Best Buy). I've transferred a few 2+ GB folders though, and it's only taken about a minute each time, and that's in Vista (horribly slow hard disk transfer).
