Ohh I didn't notice the difference!
An upgrade from 160GB to 250GB!
Guess I am to used to seeing laptops with at least 320GB of harddisk.
    WOW !

Anyway it looks like it has been upgraded with Components originally
meant for Macbook Unibodies sitting in the warehouse.
That is how Apple save the Earth.

The irony is of this release is I would still take the aluminum macbook, seems like they made a mistake with the order of their releases and naming lol...

I have an idea to make a unibody aluminum macbook!
but now I think we should have gone plastic..

    New vs Unibody http://www.apple.com/mac/whichmacbook/compare.html
    Save $200
Polycarbonate unibody (looks like eee pc)
    Bigger HD
    lack of firewire 800
    lack of sd card
    ........
Id go with the new macbook. Wonder how the screens compare, besides resolution?

Okay it doesnt look like a bad deal. I would still get the Pro only because f the aluminum and the SD firewire and such. Also goodies like the backlit keyboard are a must. But its good to see that the macbook is totally forgotten when it comes to certain feature like the battery for example. Also i am a PC owner and a mac owner as well. There can never be any hating on macs. Lets face it OSx is faster than vista and 7. Enough said.

I can say it is true for Vista but not the same for 7.
If you haven't tried Win7 RTM go install it first before making such sweeping statement, it doesn't do justice to the software, not that Microsoft nor Apple deserve any justice in the first place.

Between Apple and Microsoft, I choose Apple. Not only for the superior OS or features and innovations, but also because Microsoft is truly evil (Bill gates is a eugenicist).

    For me I choose Microsoft.
Because Apple is a Control Freak.
    Evil loves control.
The part about Superior OS and innovation is disputable and don't get it started as it will set the thread on fire.

Kind of agree, but not Ubuntu, customed Gentoo is the fastest.
It is also the reason why it is called Gentoo.

I seriously doubt OSX is superior to Windows 7, which is a sweeping statement that depends on a users needs anyway, to which everyone should disregard your fan boy post right there. But as Bill Gates has given the most amount of money to charity in the entire world (yes I know hes filthy rich, but still), I see no reason to why he's more evil than the control freak that is Steve Jobs.

Ok, his typical fanboy post was soundly refuted, back on topic everyone.

I wanna try the glass tocuhpad myself, that sounds kind of cool. :)

I read the article and it didn't really prove a thing, aside from Mac getting better battery life under OSX (omg who knew???), and that W7 was better for gaming (omg who knew???). Snow Leopard is optimized for Mac hardware anyway, as the article also states, so I don't see that as much of a review anyway.

    Back on topic now?

I'm tempted to order this new white MB for light short-term travel use. With this (theoretically) less heat's gonna be felt on the bottom; better for actual lengthy lap-use. Also, the white will pretty much show zero finger prints. The screen appears to have been improved, so has the battery and trackpad. The price is right, even with the +2GB RAM upgrade which I'd get for sure. And unlike the new iMacs, this is shipping right away. Very tempting.

    Sure.

It is good to see that the white macbook is not being forgotten design wise, that it to is being refined. It seems that into the future the macbook line will receive most new technology slightly later than the 'pro' line. No problem with that. It will be good if the price continues at that point or drops a bit as it means Macs should feature more in the lower price ranges.

I didn't get the last white macbook because it looked plastically. This one looks better. I got a mbp instead. I boot with Win7/SL; works fine, love them both equally.

Ok we got these out in the shop today and got a proper hands-on, a few things:

    - Looks great IRL, extremely clean/clinical design
    - Feels good, the rubber base is not too grippy
    - Nice screen, everything feels like a MBP just without the case
    - Extremely scratchable palm rest area, extremely glossy, will get easily wrecked.
    - I wouldnt have one over an MBP, the £100 difference is easily justified in the backlit keyboard, SD card reader, weight, and durability.

A nice machine, but £100 too expensive

maybe a nonglossy palmrest would have been better. I haven't had a MacBook to use in a while, did the old model have a glossy palmrest?

Nah old model had matte palmrest. New one is hyper glossy, if it were black, it'd be like a mirror.

I'll play with it more tomorrow and see how it compares. But it does bridge the gap between the MB and MBP a little too well

I like the new Macbook, but the 13" MBP would really benefit from discrete graphics to not only give it more "pro" power, but also to help differentiate it from the new MB.

To be honest though, I do have a gripe with the new MB. What's with the lack of an IR port? I may be in the minority here, but I use front row pretty often. I hook my MBP up to my stereo system and use front row to control all my media. The lack of an IR port combined with the fact that they just released a new remote seems like a double slap in the face.

I really like the new Macbook design. I'm glad they added the multitouch trackpad and the unibody design. It looks a lot nicer now and it weighs less too. Too bad the screen isn't edge to edge glass. That would have been nice for the price but knowing Apple, they would not do that. Other than that, just waiting for enough money to go get it! :)
