    Hello,
I am new to this forum and need any advice you can provide about flat bed scanners that will work with OS X Lion.
I have an older HP that I understand cannot be used now that I have upgraded to OS X Lion.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Welcome to the forum!

Lion's drivers and software do extend the scanner capabilities (I'm assuming you have an All-In-One model?) to many of the near and mid-term older models, so don't simply presume that it won't work without checking first.

You can access the list of HP scanners that are supported in Lion here - check it out and see if your model is there, then give it a try before you go out and purchase a new one (unless the Lion upgrade is your excuse to get something new :)).

    ClearSkies,
Thanks for the reply. My scanner is an HP Scanjet 3970 that uses a Power PC interface that is definitely not compatible with Lion.
I am looking for something that is faster and more convenient than reverting to using this scanner with my old PC with Windows XP.

My goodness, almost anything will be faster and better than a unit released in '03 :). But I know how to hang on to tech almost as well as anyone.

I've used both the Canon LiDE and Epson Perfection Vxx series as a dedicated scanner in the past, with good success. Current generation models of both on Amazon starting at $50-70 new.

Increasing your budget, All-in-One units from HP and Canon are quite nice (using HP myself), with good performance and quality. You end up using Preview or Image Capture to do the scans, although if you connect the non-wireless models to an Airport for wireless printing this breaks the scanning capability (it's a limitation of OS X).

The Canon and Epson's you mention appear to be moving to the top of the list unless I can find a suitable 11 x 17 model.

Thanks for information on the wireless limitation.
