It must have at least G and it must work with torrents. I'm looking to spend 50 or less. I have a macbook and my room mate has an acer.

We're getting cable next week at our new place and need one. What are good ones? I heard some linksys ones have issues with torrents. Is this true? Do belkin or netgear have any issues with certain models with mac's?

I personally had problems with wireless routers by trendnet and d-link, because they just can't handle many connections. The one which I use now is Asus Wl500g Premium with alternative firmware - everything works like a charm but it ain't cheap though

We are moving into a new place and money is tight. I really don't want to get a wired one, but I do need a good quality one.

I have a D-Link DSL-G604T that I've had for 3 years or so, I assume they're relatively cheap now. I've never had any problems with it. It's currently connected to 2 desktops and 2 laptops and runs 24/7.

Linksys WRT350N with DD-WRT firmware or the ASUS WL500G Premium which Zedr0n mentioned before (it has great cable performance, but I don't think that it's the same with wireless). You should take a look at Linksys WRT300N, 330N and 350N. They all can work with 3rd party firmwares which improve the performance a lot. Also, maybe a Belkin?

How good are these 3 party firmwares for security? I'm not not a wizz at these things, but I can set them up. As long as they have modern security etc and have at least G speeds I'm good with that. are they as reliable as the linksys model walmart sells for 50 dollars?

IMHO, avoid Linksys unless you like to replace your router once per year.

Linksys G is not that bad, but make sure you chose the GL model, not the G. Also, 3rd party firmwares are secure enough for you. Security is relative these days...

    LINKSYS WRT54GL

    LINKSYS WRT54GS

I can't find the difference between these. Not even linksys site is that clear to me.

One laptop is windows vista and mine is OS X. I think both operating systems can take advantage of the most modern encryption etc. Which one of these routers is better? They are 70 and 63 dollars. Not that big of a difference.
