I know it's a notebook forum and not meant for iMacs, and this is about my iMac, but I wanted to see if anyone else has faces problems like this before. I recently bought a 2013 iMac 27 inch for a good price, and I just noticed this smudge on the bottom left of my screen which is really bothersome. I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced something like this with their monitors, and if theres a way to fix it. Thank you!

Well you really only want to use a bit of water and a microfiber cloth to clean the screen. Unfortunately, Apple screens are fingerprint magnets. I swear to god I never touch my screens but somehow both my rMBP and Thunderbolt Display are riddled in smudges.

Just dampen a microfiber cloth a bit in water and wipe it across the display, then use the dry part (or a second cloth) to clean it. You don't really want to use any chemicals as they can bleed through the screen and wreck it. I learned that lesson the hard way on an HP laptop once.

Apple actually has a fairly decent writeup on this

This is for an iPhone but same basic idea

It may be a watermark behind the glass. The panel is contacting the glass or something to that effect. I think the only solution (that I know of) would be to have it professionally repaired or replaced.. We had that on a laptop... was that way when we bought it. It was my nieces laptop and she never complained until I noticed it one day. So we took it in and Apple replaced the display assembly under warranty.

Actually is there a way to remove the glass? so that we can have a matte screen?

From what I understand, I don't think it's possible to operate the laptop sans glass without risking damage to the display underneath the glass.

The "best" option would be to use one of those matte screen covers, which aren't all that great imo compared to an actual matte display :/.
