I have an opportunity to purchase a refurbished MBP and I need help deciding between either the older 15" model, 2.33ghz, 2GB ram, 6x Superdrive w/ ATI Mobility 1600 w/256MB or

    the new 15" model 2.2ghz, 2GB ram, 8x Superdrive, w/ NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 128MB

My gut say go with the newer refurb, but does anyone have any knowledge to the contrary?

The newer one is completely better. The only reason not to get one is if you have an aversion to nVidia. The processor speed is not noticeable, the ram is the same, you have a faster dvd drive, and a better GPU. Plus the LED screen! Get the new one.

Definitely the newer 2.2 GHz model. The older model didn't have any problems (most problems found in the Core Duo was fixed in the first Core 2 Duo) but definitely the newer MacBook Pro has great new features, like more RAM, a better GPU and LED screens. And a more up-to-date processor platform, although RAM is currently not fast enough to utilize the 800 MHz Front Side Bus.
