Well as much as I like my MBPRO I find myself wanting an apple desktop setup...so I'm trying to figure out the best way to give myself that "desktop" feel. I'm debating the

    wired keyboard

a logitech mouse (is this ok)

display...I love the 24 LED but is there some adapter coming out? Or should I go 30" inch cinema?

I basically want to LEAVE my laptop closed and just deal with the macbook pro as a desktop....thoughts?

A lot of people use their notebooks that way. I in fact just picked up the dock for my ThinkPad. My main desktop has a 20" LCD running at 1200x1600 resolution. The 1600 resolution like on the WQXGA on the 30" LCD is fabulous for internet.

The only problem with running it closed, is that people have had faster video card failures because of it. If anything, just run with it open, even if you dont sue the screen. Plus itll be cooler.

I do know what you mean, there's nothing like a great big display on a nice big clean desk.

Unfortunately at this moment or the near future for that matter, there is no word on an adapter that will be able to use the previous generation macbook/macbook pro with the new 24" LED ACD.

Its kind of dumb for Apple to not make an adapter because I'm sure there are many many people with the previous gen mb/bmp like yourself and especially the Mac Pro desktop owners would love to use it but I'm sure it will come eventually.

Can my MBPRO support the 30 cinema?? I only see one DVI out...isnt it dual? Is there an adapter?

I would guess the 30 cinema is a better monitor than the 24 LED...

With my current 24" LED ACD + 2.53ghz unibody mbp, when I have stuff d/ling or uploading all night, I just press control + command + eject button and it puts both displays to complete sleep (only the display) while the computer is still running.

If I dont need the computer to run, I just manually go to the apple symbol on the top left corner and just hit sleep and it sleeps everything. :D

I owned the 30" ACD 2 times in the past and both times I ended up returning them.

The thing about the 30" ACD that I didnt like is that the right side was always a bit brighter than the left side of the screen. (very uneven brightness).

It wasnt apparent the first 5-10 minutes of use but once it gets dark and you stare at the screen and in use you can tell when you drag certain windows across from the left to right and light grey will turn to white.

The 24" LED ACD is THE best display I've ever owned. The black is extremely black and the whites are white as snow. The colors are amazing on this monitor especially due to the H-IPS panel. Also it doesnt suffer from the 23" and 30" ACD's S-IPS issue with the glittery look.

Also my favorite thing about the 24" is the instant on, once I wake my computer up it instantly goes to full brightness with the instant eye-candy.

My previous 23" ACD would look blurry the moment it was turned on until 5 minutes later for it to catch up to its full brightness (and it was only 6 months old). And when I first bought the 23" ACD I used it in 4 notches and 6 months later I'd have to use 6-7 notches to match that original 4 notch brightness due to the ccfl lamps dimming.

For that much dough ($1799) why dont you just sell your current penryn mbp, buy the 2.4ghz unibody mb or the mbp and get the 24" LED ACD.

IMHO the 24" LED ACD is THAT much worth it as your display outlasts EASILY any other computer hardware.

I am seriously recommended the 24" LED ACD. At this point imho that led in an external display is a MUST. :)

I think they do but your much better off ebaying it or on craigslist. I see your spec'd mbp on ebay for around even $1350.

Anyone have a Dell 27" or 30" monitor as their external for their macbook pro??

    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=222-7315

Maybe since i have no mini display port this would work...thoughts?

I could then sell my 20" dell ultrasharp for a couple hundred bucks and make up some of the cost...This 27 inch has many ports including component for video games, etc. More bang for the buck.

My only concern would be compatibility.
