The idea it seems is to use advertisements to generate revenue and either reduce the cost of the OS to the end user or make it completely free.

As long as the end user as the option of paying the full price and not being bombarded with ads, I'm ok with such a scenario.

So, has Apple finally seen the darkness, now that they want to join the bloatware camp?

Maybe Apple has an open source OS design different than OS X that would be open to anyone, PC or Mac, for free with ads or without ads for a premium price? Nah. :p

If it were open source, I expect it would be trivial to strip out the ads without Apple's help :p

OMG enough of their crappy ads.
They are almost at the borderline of committing misrepresentation.

It is an EPIC Failure if you need to use Ads to continue bashing rivals in order to keep up sales.
Can't you just advertise and touts your own capabilities and leave others out of it?
Someone should sue them to get them back in their place.

you are not getting it! you are not forced to watch ads! you can choose to do that in exchange of, lets say, free songs/movies/programs/etc.!
