    Hey guys.

I have a Macbook Unibody, 2.0ghz, a 320gb 7200rpm (new hdd, it will arrive this week), and 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

    He has a Macbook Pro (non-unibody), 2.5ghz, 5400rpm 250GB, 2GB DDR2 RAM.

BUT, his is a 15" little bit older model, non-unibody. But he dropped it ,the super drive is a little finicky because of it, but he did a SMART Test the harddrive is fine, and he bought a new bottom piece for it because the blemishes are bothering him. He has a 8600M GT, while i have a 9400M GT.

    So, it's a trade between Unibody Macbook, 13.3 LED Screen, Huge trackpad, 2.0GHZ, 9400M GT, 4GB DDR3, 320GB 7200RPM 16MB HDD. (Battery is 100% using coconutbattery)

    Macbook Pro 2008, 2.5Ghz, 5400RPM 250GB, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 8600M GT, 15.4 CCFL, non-huge (lol) trackpad. Super Drive is not working 100% capacity though.
But honestly, Im not too sure about the HDD because its been dropped,i mprly gonna replace it, and the super drive is broken. but he is including a new piece for the bottom.

What do you think is a fair trade? How much should I add, straight trade, w/e

    hmm...

depends on how you figure it...

given the condition i think you could basically trade 1:1

i feel like he could get 1100 for his machine if it is still under warranty, given its condition.

your machine could be worth perhaps about the same about... maybe $50-$100 less?

i'm basically just making up numbers to be honest

hehethanks for your input. i want this to be fair as possible.
miens under warranty until feb, his is 3 years.

how much do you think I can sell this machine on the market, like ebay, here, cragislist and what not.

    It's 2.0ghz, 4gb 1066mhz ddr3 ram, no-backlit keyboard, but it has 7200rpm 320gb hdd 16mb cache drive.

original box, great condition (it has invisible shield on the bottom, and sides, i was tired of the top, so i took it off lol)

I would not take the trade. The only thing that Macbook pro has going for it is the larger screen size. Everything else is either on par with the Macbook, or worse (ie keyboard/trackpad). Add to the fact that it has been dropped, and yours is pristine...not worth it.

    Erm...Hello?
    8600M GT vs 9400M G? (I don't think there is a 9400M GT)
    2 Times the shaders?
    Have you considered it?
Worth considering if you play intensive games.
If you do not play intensive game it is better not to trade.
Moreover the part about finicky optical drive will affect your usage experience.
Not to mention the new laptop feeling.

The only think the 15 inch has for it is a bigger screen. The 8600m gt sucks anyway and shouldn't even matter. Don't take the deal, your screen is in better condition (newer means brighter/more even back light) and is actually not much worse in terms of resolution, (13inch has PPI of 110.42 vs 110.12 for 15.4inch). The 13inch macbook uni would probably be a clearer screen, the 15inch would only be bigger. Considering that, the only real advantage to the 15inch is a bigger (not better) screen, at the cost of a huge amount of batter life, slower and smaller HD, half the ram, and it seems to be in very poor condition (being dropped). I would recommend to not trade even.

    It doesn't suck.
I do agree the trade is not worth it because it is second hand and had a few issues but 8600M GT doesn't suck.
If you want to make a point at least be accurate.

for what its worth, the 15" LED screen on the non-unibody is going to be better than the unibody macbook 13" LED screen, regardless of the age.

as far as the "its not worth it, period" that doesn't even make sense.

what if they traded and he also got $10,000? then would it be worth it? he already mentioned that they could pass cash to settle any difference in value.

anyway, as far as resale values go, i think you would be getting a good deal to get a trade without any cash exchange (if you intended to sell either yours or his, whichever you take, i think you would get more for his)

but as far as keeping it, i would get more personal utility out of the 13" machine, even though it isn't as adept at gaming. if you want to play games, trade over, and either keep it or sell it to get something with a 4650+ or a 260m/9800 gt or something like that

It may preform better but the macbooks with the 8600m gt did not have hybrid graphics, so your battery is going to take a huge hit. Also a 8600m gt will score in the 3000s in 3dmark06, which sucks, while the GT 240m found in many $1000 laptops uses the same amount of power and scores 6000. If your concerned about graphics, both cards are bad, except the 9400 will net you much better battery life.

We are talking Macbooks here  8600M GT is almost equivalent to the best they have: the 9600M GT.
The graphics is a step higher than 9400M G for 3D gaming like COD4 it can show.
Don't be so insensitive bringing PCs into the picture, you insensitive clod. ;)
Battery wise it will take a beating but your mileage may differ.

I mentioned pcs because if gaming was a big concern (which it probably isn't has he never stated he plays games) he should look into a pc. Just doing normal office/school/web/ and light gaming he won't notice any difference between a 8600 and a 9400. Therefore the 9400 is clearly a better choice because of its lower power consumption.
