New Mac user here, quick question. I have a 22" Samsung LCD that I have hooked up to my MacBook. I was able to move the title bar over to the 22" Samsung LCD, but my MacBook screen can have my mouse move over to it. Is there anyway to ONLY use the 22" Samsung LCD, having the MacBook LCD turned off?

I have a Macbook Pro and this is what I do.
Note: You need a USB keyboard/mouse for it to work.
    1. Close the lid on the Macbook and wait for it to go to sleep (it should).
    2. Press a key on your keyboard to wake it.
    And that's it.

Yeap thats the answer, it works the same on the mb as well. It can also be done using a bluetooth mouse or keyboard, as long as you select the option to allow "this device to wake this computer" selected. you will find that under system preferences>bluetooth preferences>advanced tab (bottom right).

I remember have read long time ago (I had my iBook by then), that it was dangerous to operate the computer that way as it could overheat while closed.

Any info about that? I plan to use my MB that way as well when I get an external screen for the office, if it's safe enough.

It should be okay, but if you are doing intense cpu/gpu stuff (like gaming or something) and you hear the fans spinning up for a long time you might just wanna open up the screen.

I know in windows theres an option to turn off the lcd screen on the mbp, but in osx i usually just turn down the brightness all the way.

Yeah, closing the lid isn't very good. Even with the lid open, while doing anything with video it gets very hot. I don't think it's good to expose your screen to that kind of heat either. The manual also says not to cover the keyboard with anything.
