Macrumors.com is reporting that the next major update for Macbook / Macbook Pro could be expected in June. Any thoughts for those who just purchased Penryn-based notebooks?

thats many months away. and by the time they release that macrumor will say another update is due soon too
-
I agree. It's quite ridiculous already.
-
Stupid rumors...of course they will update the MacBooks (with Montevina generation CPUs and GeForce 9 Mobile GPUs, probably better HDDs, who knows). It always makes sense that an update will follow. Maybe they should of said that the future MB will be faster.
-
I am so glad not get the first generation Penryn that will be out dated so so so soon.
That's why , I kept saying it is wasting to get a Penryn on Santa Rosa. -
Ok... seriously. If you want to wait to buy a notebook that WON'T be updated in 4-6 months you're simply going to be waiting forever, because computers are updated frequently. It's just how it works. As soon as you buy it, it becomes obsolete, and a new one will be there relatively quickly. If you're afraid of that; then just don't buy a computer.

These rumor sites are getting ridiculous. Everybody who bothers to do 5 mins of research will find intel's roadmaps for future processor rollouts.
Centrino 2 rollout Q3 '08
Q4 '08 will see new architecture in Nahalem
'09 will see the tick on Intel's Tick Tock policy and Nahalem will get a die shrink. -
So, recent buyers of the refreshed MBP can enjoy their new laptop. Others will continue to subject themselves to the torture of waiting for the next "big" MB/MBP update from Apple. It's always just over the next hill, and then maybe the next hill... Maybe it's a mirage resulting from a never-happy culture of mass-consumers. etc. etc.
Those of you who are going to wait, do you even know what the impact of Montevina will be on the work you will do with your MBP? -
-Less heat
-Possibly faster startup depending on how Apple uses the built-in 2GB NAND flash
-Possibly better battery life
And if they upgrade the video card: More gaming possibilities.
^and yes I consider gaming serious work -
I swapped for a new Penryn today, and at least I know I've got somethign that will last a while. I was into PC gaming for years, I played the catch up game all the time, and let me tell you Apple guys....theres nothign worse than PC gaming for wasting money and time waiting on upgrades!

are you freaking kidding me!!! the new updates have been out for one freakin day and they're already starting on the rumors again. I mean yeah we all know it's coming and the update was pretty much a joke but come on now...give it a rest for at least 48 hours. I'll admit though if there is an amazing update in June I'll be donating to the apple fund for another MBP and my fiance' will enjoy another hand me down...haha I love technology!!!

At least in the US, the wait is shorter. In other markets, we first have to wait for Intel's launch, then wait 4-6 weeks for the first batch of notebooks to hit the US market. When the US consumer appetite is satiated (another 4-6 weeks), only do we see these notebooks begin shipping in normal quantities elsewhere.
Assuming Intel follows a tick-tock update cycle every 6 months, that's at least 2 months wasted just to get my hands on a new product. Then 3-4 months later, voila!, a new chipset/processor.
I think all these PC companies should stop projecting product releases far ahead of schedule. They should coordinate with Intel so the notebooks actually ship the moment the chips are announced. -
this news makes me feels better
(i bought my 17"MBP in october/november last year) -

I plan on getting a MBP later this year so i hope this is true altough i agree those rumor sites are getting a little bit boring
