Is there a way to remove the "Sync" Icon (two arrows following each other) from the upper right hand corner of my screen?

It's been there since I installed the iPhone 2.0 software update along with the MobileMe update.

Go to the MobileMe icon in System Preferences and uncheck "Show status in menu bar" on the Sync tab.

I tried that but because I don't hold an account with them, I can't see the Sync Tab.

Have you already tried it out for 60 days? If not, sign up and get into it that way.

I haven't tried it yet (and wasn't planning to)

But I guess I'll have to know to get rid of it.

oh come on now, you can easily remove anything from the menu bar by unchecking the appropriate setteing or simply Command+Dragging it out of the menu bar.

Everyone has a different level of knowledge regarding OS X. Do you really need to speak down to people with less experience? It's a little insulting.

yep unfortunately I am just a little bit of an insulting type of person.

everyone has a different level of knowledge regarding everything, I just find it a little frustrating when people recommend very odd solutions to problems before taking a minute or so to make sure that is a valid method or not, and then finding a better one.

sorry, but my insulting ways also provided a valid solution.

So rather than politely making a suggestion when you see someone doesn't know the answer to something, you get frustrated and lash out at them? How exactly is that being helpful?

Please don't apologize for something in which you aren't sorry for.

So what do you do when Command+Drag doesn't work and there isn't anything in system preferences to uncheck?

Rude or not, if you have a solution, please share :p. I don't think cmd-drag works on any third-party applications.

I tried it on all of the icons I have in my menu bar and while there were a couple third party icons which I could move, most couldn't.

all you needs to do is double check the preferences of that application. for example, Gmail notifier gets all up in my menu bar's business when I set it to do so, if I go to Gmail Notifiers preferences, of course I see the option to turn it on or off, which in turn, adds or removes it from my menu bar.

seriously though, just check the applications own preferences, example, KeyChain Assistant has a preference that allows a little lock icon in the menu bar for locking the screen, keychain, other things. . . very useful, easy to disable and enable. . . preferences.
