I hope to use my Alienware (just ordered coming soon) as my main machine and sell my iMac, but as a film student, there is a big chance I might need to buy a mobile apple laptop for Final Cut (of course since its has a bigger screen I am going to use it as my main system). Looking at all the MBP's the only one I am interested in is the 17". My questions:

    1) Would I be a fool to buy buy the non unibody 17", I heard of many issues with the 8600MGT dying randomly, and I personally have had my share of issues with it's build quality.

    2) How much can I buy the last gen unibody 17" for? I am looking to buy it brand new (fine with ebay ), or refurbished only.

    3) Would it be pointless to keep an m11x If I got the new 17" $2300 ? (I think I might be able to cancel my order, or return it with out opening it to avoid a restocking fee). I have my iphone for taking notes in class, but I really like to play games and a powerful ultraportable is always a plus, obviously the 335 in the AW is better than the MBP, but then again the CPU on the alienware is kind of joke compared to the i5. However I know the 1920 x 1200 res is going to destroy my frame rates in bootcamp.

mods please close. I just confirmed with Dell, that I can return it without restocking fee. I am so buying the 17" macbook pro with student discount ($2099 very nice price) and possibly free ipod promo soon (will sell ipod and bring my cost below $2000)
