I was looking at a Dell XPS or alienware for gaming but stopped by the apple store on Sunday. I really like the macbook pro 17" glossy it comes in so clear and easy to read. I can bootcamp to play battlefied and COD2 so that is a plus and I get all the software for both OS's on one computer. When I priced it out with a student discount it comes to around $2700 with a 160gig HD and 2.3 2 core duo. The dell with a 512 video, 1 gig ram, 2.15 2 core Duo ran me almost 3099 with student discount free shipping. I finally seen the dell and man that thing is big!
So today might make the drive to the city again over an hour away and pick up my new toy.

Thought I would update this a little.
I have had it for 2 days now and just noticed a dead pixel in black right in a annoying place GRRRRR. If I want to bring it back it is a 10% return fee so that would cost me $200.00! youch.

They should repair it for free since it would still be under warranty...

On PC laptops I know they get somewhere around 7 dead pixels if I am right before they have to fix it. How does it work with apple? Do they need to have so many before they would care about it?

one dead pixel is one too many. when paying that much money for a system, i would not accept anything more than zero dead pixels.

get it replaced through warranty as soon as possible. it IS possible.

You can probably get it replaced, but you gotta be determined. First, if you bought it at an Apple Store give them an earful. If you don't get too angry, but aren't super nice, they will likely replace it. If that does not work, you may want to try customer solutions. You can reach them by calling Apple's corporate HQ in Cupertino and asking for customer solutions. Explain the situation and they will probably replace it.

The dead pixel policy is probably around 5-7 btw.

I called apple and the apple store. Both said being under 14 days I have had it to bring it in for a return :)
I called dell for the heck of it and they said no less than 7 dead pixels before they will do anything about it.
