I noticed that Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Home & Student Edition has three separate activation numbers on the backside of the DVD envelope. Also, the accompanying owners manual has spaces for you to write the activation codes for "computer 1", "computer 2" and "computer 3" on the inside cover.

Does this mean I have three licenses, and can freely install this on two of my Macs?

yes, you can install on any computer as much as you like as long as it's only 3 computers at a time.
