Would it be worth buying the Microsoft student addition software for vista or Mac OSX? I don't see the difference, just that OS X consumes less battery when i'm using it.

Well it really depends on which os you prefer, though I hear that with office 2008 it lost support for macros or something like that, so maybe to ensure maximum compatibility and if you are a power user, get office 2007, if not get the mac version, which if you get it now, you can participate in microsoft's update program which works like leopard's uptodate program, basically just pay the s/h fee when the new version comes out. I would get the mac version, but I am trying to separate myself from windows as much as I can.

I should also point out that the current office 2008 beta is awesome. I prefer the interface of this version over office 2007's, much cleaner, less in your face. But that's subjective.

How are you gonna be using windows? Boot camp? Parallels? Also office 2004 right now runs on rosetta, ie it was written for ppc processors, so it will be a little slow compared to most programs, well actually a lot slower, so that might get annoying.

rumors are that VBA support for office 2008 will be dropped. if you dont do anything with your own macros, or use add-ins, you will likely be unaffected by not having VBA.

Not trying to be an ass, but addition is 2+2. What you are trying to say is Student Edition.

If you are getting the student edition, you are more than likely not going to use macros for school, you might as well get the Mac version.

I still prefer Office 2007 (Windows) over Office 2008 (Mac). I know I'm comparing a Beta to a final product, but whatever. The final Office 2008 version is not due until January 2008.

You can get Office Ultimate 2007 for US$59.95 if you qualify.

Not everyone qualifies for the Ultimate Steal though :(. Only university students, whereas Student Edition covers any form of student, as well as home users.
