I will test Merom in the Mini tomorrow.
The forums will erupt again if Merom works. Such a huge upgrade path from a $500 dollar machine.
I win not be able to post any info, images, or benches.
Pretty **** scarey to have this roll up on us so fast and we have not even gotten to abuse the Yonahs yet.
----
I will only confirm if its works or doesnt.
-----
It is possible to drop in Merom into Mini, one hell of an upgrade path.
confirming this is a working combo, just drop the chip in.

Do you think it's possible to do the same trick with Macbook Pro??!!
If yes.... OH HOLD ON!!!!!
-
i hear that the cpus are soldered to the macbook pro. if that is the case, the upgrade would be at the very least, incredibly difficult. does anyone know for sure?
-
Found this:
"This upgrade should also work fine on the Intel-based iMac, which has a socketed CPU like the mini. The MacBook Pro's CPU is suface mounted, unable to be swapped out. For owners of Intel-based Macs with socketed CPUs, quite an upgrade path has been revealed, one most did not anticipate."
Anybody knows if the upgrade is practically possible?? I mean DIY-style maybe? Or it is definetely imposible, given this information? -
I say its impossible - if the CPU is soldered onto the MOBO, there's no way of getting it off, unless you're a professional solderer or something of the sort.

Merom works in pretty much every Calistoga platform out there.
Already been tested at XtremeSystems. -
i agree.... -
Well, then there's no point in getting MBP...
No point AT ALL... -
I think that getting a MBP is a fine choice (unless you HAVE to have Merom in your notebook) for right now and is an excellent notebook. -
Hmm.. but this now will last for how long? Half a year?
Would be a pity watching, how some top features are slipping through your hands, knowing, that those hands've recently paid preimum for top notebook... -
There is a difference between checkbox features and features that will make a difference to you.
You couldn't really care less if your programs were executed in 64-bit code or 32-bit code. It would be transparent to you. I also heavily doubt you are using any programs that offers an improvement going from 32-bit to 64-bit.
Yonah is not going to get obsolete just because Intel launches a new mobile processor later this year. Of course, you are welcome to oogle at all the features but most people buy a laptop simply because they need one -
It's all about videoediting, it'll benefit from 64 bit.
-
-
And better yet, if the new laptops will come out with the new 64-bit chips, then the current MBP and such will become cheaper. And if you can't notice a difference, go for the cheaper one.
