I am thinking about getting the lower end macbook. I have a 1GB module of 533Mhz DDR notebook ram. Can I put that into the macbook? Would the speed difference cause any problem (ie the base memory is 667 in the macbook). Thanks,
Ramy

the macbook uses ddr2 ram, i don't think it is compatible with ddr1. and to answer the speed question, the ram would downclock to the slowest chip speed.

Yes - DDR2 and DDR have different power consumptions (DDR2 uses less power than DDR). Therefore, DDR2 will be incompatable with DDR.

My memory is DDR2, as it is 533MHz. So it should work ok in a system. I figure 1.5 GB of memory, even if it all runs at 533 for now will still outperform .5 GB of 667...

Rnassar,
Your 1gb stick of DDR2 533mhz will most probably work, but as you have stated yourself, both sticks of memory will run at 533mhz. And you are right, 1.5gb of memory will be much better than 512mb.
Hope that helps,
Steve
