    Hi there,

My macbookpro (intel based) gets hot and starts fans when i connect an external screen. Even though I think it sucks to begin with, Ive tried working with the notebook half open so it can cool through keyboard.
That only delays the fan orchestra in 20 min. Can something be done?
Is it enough of an issue for apple to take care of?
Being a photographer I was happy when i got my hands on this s-pva based lovely screen, but now
    Wise advice anyone?? much appreciated!

I've done a lot of temperature (GPU+CPU) testing on my Penryn MBP in OSX and in Windows and using an external monitor increases GPU temperatures on my system by five to six degrees C. For some reason, the GPU frequencies go up by a factor of four or five with the external monitor compared to not using an external monitor. My guess is that this is a driver bug. I've switched to not using an external monitor off the MBP. Instead, I drive three external monitors off an old Windows machine and just control the monitors with Synergy.

I use an external fan setup under the MacBook Pro to keep temperatures low. I don't think that the MBP fans get audible during the workday for me.

Yep. sounds just like what's going on here. No new drivers or something of the sort i guess.. Could it be connected to the eternal hardware part to blame, a.k.a Nvidia GT8600 series graphic cards?
Well.. 10x anyway, i guess you cant just buy a laptop these days and expect it to work. My 8 year old mac still going on though. :)

It would probably be worth some investigation but it isn't a big enough issue for me. I guess the best thing to do would be to file a bug with nVidia. I don't even know how to do that.
