You mean the left side of the screen or left side of it's name?

I think he means the whole icon - like on Windows. Everything starts on the left and can be moved around. He wants the hardrive icon on the left.

Hm, I don't think Tiger has an option for that. I think your best bet is to do it manually and deselect "align to grid" from the view options when you right click on your desktop.

Yeah, as far as I know, you can drag the icons to the left side...but that's that.

I further now understand what it's meant by Apple's Human Interface Guidelines. I never thought it made sense for Windows to have the icons on the left. Most people are right handed, the mouse is on the right, they keypad is on the right so it makes sense for your icons to be on the right.
I like how Spotlight appears in the top right corner. I hate how Vista's search is in a tiny window in the bottom left, it really works against you with wide screens, you feel like you are looking all the way over to the bottom corner which doesn't make sense when the mouse is on the right clicking the search window.

Well, then maybe the close buttons should be on the right side too :p.

LOL, true, but that's probably because the tool bars on most windows are on the left. Yep, there's really no wrong way if the user likes it.

I agree with that. Such as in a browser, where all the Back, Refresh, etc. buttons are on the left.

Now if Apple let you choose which side the buttons were, that would be awesome.

lol. you made me chuckle. dont know why i said lol, since it was only a chuckle, but i am too lazy right now to move my hand to the mouse to delete or go back with the arrow keys, but taking into account how much im typing to explain myself it kinda beats the purpose of all this paragraph.

I realize I could drag them over, in fact that was obvious.

However, when I drag them over, they appear on the right side again after a restart.

I was going to leave them on the right along with the dock, because its a bit easier. However, I put a couple folders on my dock, and to access them easily, I use the shortcut where you just click and hold on the folder, then subfolders and files all appear, etc. The right arrow for a subfolder points to the left, but because there is no space, the subfolder appears on the right side, not a big deal, just a little iffy for me.

I guess Ill just put the dock on the right.
