I set up mail with my Gmail account but I don't want it to download all my messages. Is there a way to set a limit to how many messages get stored in the computer? I have waaay too many messages and don't want to waste hard disk space. Thanks!

you mean old archived messages, so that you only get new messages?

You can choose at mail.google.com on settings to have pop3/imap mail to access all mail, or only new mail... etc... its not a setting in Mac Mail...

are you using IMAP or POP? I use my iPhone for all my main email... so I did NOT use the gmail setup on the iphone, as it uses IMAP, which will DELETE your email off gmail servers, no archive it. Setting it it pop, lets you set it in gmail to just archive on a pop delete. On my MBP, i set Mail up to retrieve "new" emails but leave a copy on the server, don't delete... you could od it opposite as that if you use your computer as your main mail machine and not your ipod touch.... but if you set up multiple Mail clients to all download mail, your gonna have email all over the place... much better to just have one as the only one that downloads and removes.
