Well I was trying out the Mail app for the first time, since I usually use hotmail, but clicking the app in the dock is quicker than going to hotmail.com. I told some people to send me some messages to the @mac.com address I made and I received their mail fine. But when I try to send it takes a long time then says:
"The connection to the server smtp.mac.com on port 25 timed out."
I went to the connections doctor and it says it couldn't connect to the SMTP server, and to check if my info is right... which it should be since I was able to receive mail.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

smtp is for outgoing mail, so you can still get inbound mail even if smtp settings are wrong.
Generally, port 25 should work, but you could try .mac's alternate port (587) instead of 25 and see if that'll work? (some ISPs block port 25 for smtp servers not their own...)
Overall settings should be similar to this:
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.mac.com
Server port: 587
Use SSL: Yes
Authentication: Password (On)
User Name: Your .Mac member name (without @mac.com)
Password: Your .Mac password -
Mail Troubles (can't send messages.)
