I have a 2.0ghz black macbook that i bought refurbished from apple and it always makes noises when turning on or returning from sleep, i read on apples website that its normal for these sounds. But honestly I owned a 15" powerbook before this and never had these sound problems, the noises almost sound like a a mini song, its weird, just want to double check if its 100% normal. Thanks

You mean the sound from the CD drive? That's normal.

Why does it matter whether it's normal? Either it bothers you or it doesn't, right? If it does bother you, but Apple thinks it's a "feature", then you'll have to bear with it, I'm affraid.

It would be helpful to us if you describe the noise.

Back up your data and take it into an authorized Apple repair center to get it inspected. You may have a faulty harddrive. It's normal to hear the drive platters spinning especially when accessing data while multi-tasking with several apps running. Though if you're hearing what sounds like the drive platters skipping all the time and not just once and a while then your drive may be about to fail.

I think what you are hearing is the SuperDrive. It makes a rather obnoxious noise when waking or booting.
