Hi everybody. I'm about set on getting a new Macbook. If money was not an issue, which color would u get? The reason i'm asking is because i want my notebook to look as good as possible after extended use. Which finish is more durable, resilient??

From what i read, the white macbook is easier to scratch. Is there any con with the black macbook?

Also, i believe with extended use, the white color will start to get dirty, yellowish. is this true?

Any experiences will be greatly appreciated.

The black MacBook will show grease more though. But personally, I do like the glow of the Apple logo on the lid against a black MacBook. Its up to you, if money really wasn't an issue I'd get a black MacBook.

The contrast from the white on black apple logo.. mmm.. didn't think of it, but you are right, it looks pretty cool :)

that grease you mention, does it go away easily with a soft cloth? or are we talking about permament stains.

    Thanks Sam

If money is not an issue, if you want to get a black macbook, then why not get a macbook pro 15 inch model. The reason of getting a macbook pro is because that you have the two usb port separated.

The Apple Macintosh originally only came in the colour white. Therefore, I believe that Macs should be white. Although, that belief is starting to become quite difficult to maintain as Macs are slowly becoming grey-ish with the MBP, MBA, MP, iMac, etc.

The dirt on the white Macbook can easily be cleaned off, as can the grease etc. Water+soap on a cloth is usually sufficient, although I tend to use lens cleaners.
The contrast of the apple logo on a black lid might be more noticeable than on a white lid, but that doesn't mean it's any less noticeable on a white lid.
Dirt does show up quite clearly on the white Macbook however. So you will have to clean it more frequently than the black Macbook if you want to keep it looking good (I clean my keyboard & stuff once every 2-3 months).

I plan on spending 1500 bucks tops. What i meant is that the money difference betwen the white and black models isn't an issue. :)

Get a refurbished black macbook. I am very satisfied with mine. Personal opinion: i think the black one is more professional than a white one. It came with a very good quality clean cloth.

Is this a poll? I wish all my keyboards were white, period, as I work in all kinds of lighting environments. I have an extra backlit keyboard (the letters become LED blue) for working in the evenings. Dark keys are very dark in poorly lit room/nightime no matter what, but at least white keys can be seen better/a little longer in these low-light conditions. Don't these books have backlit keys? I thought they did: that helps! I would get a keyboard skin for dirt prevention if that is your concern.

No, unfortunately the MacBooks do not have a backlit keyboard. The MacBook Air, which uses MacBook-style keys and uses black keys, does have a backlit keyboard though!

I'm not quite sure what you hope to garner from us on this issue, since it's really just a personal choice, now that the white MacBooks don't have the discoloring issue they had before. I will say, though, that I personally have a certain connotation with the white ones, due to my work at my college's tech helpdesk. Seems every day there's another girl bringing in a white MacBook asking some slightly airheaded questions - I mean, I'm happy to see more people getting Macs, but seriously...please take at least 5 minutes to try to find the answer yourself! :p

But anyways, that's just me - both look great, I personally prefer the black just from personal preference and, as I said, my personal experience with girls of questionable intellect and the white ones - but you should really go with which YOU think looks best.

Black Macbooks are naturally, more anti-theft than white, because white macbooks are prettymuch "Hey look at me, i've got lots of dough!"

Just like the classic white earbuds of ipods

Until the thief/mugger sees the glowing apple logo on that "special, more expensive," black macbook then your officially even more screwed! ;)

Then the black mb is pretty much, "Hey look at me, I've got even lots more dough to spend a premium just for the color black!"

Thanks guys for your opinion. I know it´s a personal decision. I just wanted to know which were the pros / cons of each finish more than the color. For example: White tends to show more scuffs, marks than the black finish and so...

I´m leaning towards the Black Macbook by the way.

    Thanks again guys.

Your statement is rather ironic considering the black MacBook is more expensive :p. But I do see how the "white-colour = iPod = Apple = has high resale value" factor comes in.

I just got a MacBook a month back. Saw both side by side in an apple store, and in my opinion the white looked better.
and u can get a transparent invisible shield from ebay at about 40$ & it will protect all your MacBook including every single key.

thats where the transparent invisible macmate comes handy

i got 1 from ebay uk site.......which was cheaper and better than the invisible shield site

and they included sickies for each n every key on keyboard......and some extra ones also.......so incase some get damaged due to wear n tear......we can change it

I thought about getting the black MB but i decided to get the white one for a couple of reasons. Number one i can be tight and i didn't want to pay extra for the black MB it is not that i could not afford it i just did not wish to pay out more than i had to.
Also, for some reason the white MB's tend to remind me more of a Mac than the black ones do. The black MB tends to remind me more of a PC notebook. They both look ok and i am maybe leaning more towards the black MB because it is less common where i live but i thought now that i am getting a Mac again i should really get something that looks like one. I thought i might regret it if i purchased the black MB.

I have two Back and white, well my wife has the white one, and I can only recommend the Black, the plastics seen more durable the black is older and seen like new the white is full of scratch, and lines across al the covers after one and a half years.

As an example the holes in the plastic that receive the memory cover in the black is hard, the holes in the white are non exists are like double the size as necesary and the memory cover become loose if you remove the battery.

If you can pay the difference, the black is better build, better plastic and is different too ;-)

That was pretty much what i thought, at least from looking at both.
I'll be ordering a black one tomorrow.

Thanks to all for your opinions and recommendations!!! :)

I vote for the black one, it looks cooler imo, but i think the white one is actually cheaper.

so you are basically paying hundreds of dollars premium for the black paint.

as a owner of a white, first generation macbook, i can testify that there's a lot of scratches on the case, and on the bottom.
