    Hi,

Yesterday I notice that there is a slight high frequency (sounds sort of like morse code) modem like beeps coming from the left side of the laptop and under the keyboard. This is much less audible than the one I had on my dell xps 1210. However, It still bothers me because I have really really sensitive hearing. Also, my brother's mbp doesn't make any noise at all except for the very low fan sound. I wonder If I just have to live with it or it is fixable. Funny that I have had this for close to 1 month already and I just noticed this 2 days ago after I upgraded the ram. I tried putting the stock ram in it and I can still hear the sound... Did I screw something up?? Please help. Also there is no apple store in Vancouver, the cloest thing to an apple store is the UBC bookstore, they do services and repairds. Thank you very much.

    Best,
    Jokkon

no, all I had to do was to remove the battery, and swap the ram.

Call Apple, you get 90 days free phone service. I have the same problem with my MBP. In OS X you pretty much have to have your ear up against the keyboard to hear it, but in Vista it's much louder and easily audible at normal sitting distance in a quiet room. Called them up and they ran me through some stuff to make sure it's not a software-only issue (also have backlight buzz, btw) and eventually he gave me the adress, and number of a repair technician, and a "case number." He didn't tell me to go to an Apple store because I'd probably be waiting for a Genius for 3 hours, and the repair place is much closer. So call them up and they should be able to find the closest repair place for you.

Hmm, the only time I get a little squeak, is from my GPU I believe when playing games (MBP 2.2). Whenever it has to work very hard, it tends to squeak very faintly. I wouldn't now if its for the same reason as your Macbook though.

thank you, i'll try that tomorrow. I am pretty sure that my screen is not buzzing, I turned the screen off, and I could still hear the buzz. BTW is the repair free?

I don't know, I'm still on the original warranty. Going to buy Apple Care later. But yeah, I think they will make you pay. It's usually the case anyway. It does make sense, if you drop it and break it, why should you get a free repair?

i thought applecare is just an extension of the 1 year complimentary warranty?
So, we should get the same service within the 1 year whether we bought the applecare or not right

Probably the same, yeah. Except you also get 3 years of phone service instead of just 90 days.
