Hello everyone I have been trying to decide between the 15" MBP and the lenovo t61p... The mbp is what im really leaning towards because of the T61p's BSOD problems and it just being problematic in general. The only thing that im worried about with MBP is the build quality. Ive heard it is really good and solid, aswell as scratch proof. But a few other users said that it is very prone to scratches and to being dented at sudden bumps, especially towards the corners. I will sometimes need to carry it around in a 15" targus notebook bag, or in a larger 17" messenger bag, that im stuck with. And I need to know is if it will become prone to scratching in either 15" or 17" bag as well. Im on the verge on buying it, but this is a problem if scratches easily..

Thanks in advanced for help :)

If you keep the MBP in a good notebook bag, you won't have to worry about denting it, unless you deliberately drop the bag onto the floor or something. I wouldn't worry about the bag scratching the casing either, as long as the fabric inside doesn't have any sharp things poking.

The MBP, like any laptop, will remain in relatively good condition if you take care of it well.

That said, it can't compare to the Thinkpads' durability. Although Thinkpads have been known for some design flaws regarding durability in the past (i.e. the thing cracking when you lift it up by a corner, the palmrest and bezel being able to be pulled off), on the whole, they're incredibly sturdy.

There's nothing inside bags specifically designed for laptops that will scratch the MBP. However, certain types of hard zippers on these bags will scratch them. My best advice would be to get a sleeve to put your MBP in and then put the sleeve in the bag. In any case, you're looking for something that fits the MBP snugly with no wiggle room. The bag doesn't do any good if you allow the MBP to move around inside or touch other things (other than the sleeve or bag itself). In other words, don't stick your 15" MBP into the 17" bag unless you have a sleeve for it.
