I got a Santa Rosa MBP and was wondering if anyone else's MBP buzzes when you scroll in Firefox and Safari? Sounds like it is coming from under the right speaker, and it sounds like a click-buzzing. Its very annoying, should I be concerned?

I would be. We have two MBPs here and neither one does that and I have good hearing. I had an HP before that did the exact same thing you described although the buzz came from near the touchpad. It might be what some people used to call CPU whine on Dells/HPs. I thought Apple notebooks weren't susceptible to it.

Does it only happen while scrolling using the touchpad?

I dont think its CPU whine... My sister has an m1330 that has a high pitched whine that is the CPU whine, this is more of a buzzing. It is less prominent when using the touchpad, although with an external mouse it is very noticeable.

I would take it in to the place you bought it from. Look at their display unit to see if it does the same and then open yours up there and reproduce the issue. If you can hear yours but not the display model, then it's a problem in which case you should get it exchanged.

Frankly, even if you do hear the display model do the same, if the issue is bothering you that much then you should exchange it regardless.

How long ago did you buy it? If it's very recent, you should be able to exchange it without any problems.

Remember though that while the new unit exchanged might not have the buzzing sound, it may introduce new issues/annoyances that are more severe than the buzzing. One thing I've learnt is that striving for perfection in electronics is an exercise in futility.

I've noticed that too with my Santa Rosa MBP when I first got it. It's very faint and only noticable in a very quiet environment. Mine seems to be less noticable recently so I can't be bothered getting it exchanged due to nothing's really wrong with the whole unit (LCD's good, no major flaws).

I can't hear anything from my right speaker. Plus CPU whine actually cuts out while scrolling, it doesn't buzz while you scroll. CPU whine would be coming from under the A key. I have noticed in OS X if you listen closely and carefully it's actually there.. sorta. In Vista whine becomes more apparent, but still nothing huge.......

But ya that's not whine, lol.

Yeah, I'll just have to learn to live with it I guess. I got it from Amazon. Nothing else is wrong with my computer though and its been amazing. Its too bad though, scrolling buzz in OSX and CPU whine in Vista...

Same here... got it yesterday and as soon as I scroll (on the MBP screen or on the external screen, doesn't matter), I hear this sound underneath the right speaker. Its not really loud, but i you put your ear near the speaker its noticable... I would compare it with the sound a mouse scrolling wheel mouse would do.
    Any solutions?

Wonton, you can get rid of the cpu whine with RMClock at least in windows. I do this with my XPS 1330.

Strange... noone has the same problems? Come on guys... Put your MBP in a somewhere quite and place your ear over the right speaker while you scroll around in Safari...

By the way, it is coming from both speakers now. :(

Well thats right, it seems to be the graphic card, also read it at the Apple Support Forums. I ran a graphics only test in XBench and does the same sound, too. I think I just get the MBP replaced.

My friend just had the exact same issue with the 17" MacBook Pro. He fixed it by resetting the PRAM. Turn the system off. Hold down OPTION, COMMAND, P, and R, and keep them held down, turn the laptop on and wait for the second chime before releasing it. He did this while on the phone with me and confirmed the sound under the right speaker is no longer present.

I haven't noticed the problem with my Santa Rosa 15" MBP ... tried listening closely, and nothing.

Me neither. Definitely doesn't affect all systems.
