has anyone had any build quality issues with their MBPs? i.e. keyboard flex, creaking, keys not aligned properly, fit and finish issues etc...

some of the keys on my keyboard are misaligned (slightly though), the keyboard flexes a little around the G and H buttons, and the little plastic thing above the "end" (right arrow) button is not set properly (it looks twisted). Also, my "shift" buttons dip to the left a little.

also, does anyone have light leakage issues with the screen and/or dead pixels? (thankfully i havnt discovered any dead pixels...yet.)

what one did you get, 15" or 17".. You should maybe put it in your signiture now, =) Screen issues abound on the net, even on youtube. Most light leakage i've seen in photos shows about an inch strip on the bottom. Do you have any?

The G and H keys are where every keyboard will have hte most flex. The mac keyboards seem to have much less flex than any other laptop keyboard. I'd say they are better than IBM keyboards I've used, which are considered top of the line.

I do have some light leakage (it seems rare that I see a laptop without any) and what almost looks like a darkening of the bottom corners of the screen. I just noticed the LCD looks curved along the bottom.

The finish is coming off the silver button for the latch. At least it is shiny under that :-D

But really, I do kind of have a lemon though. This unit just has tons of problems, I just haven't gotten it replaced yet.

I've used a g4 powerbook and a mbp...I can't place my finger on it, but the mbp just seems more flimsy to me somehow. It just doesn't instill the same image of quality. Maybe it's totally in my head, I dunno. Eitherway, they're both nice machines.

No issues whatsoever with mine, but I've only had it for a week yet on the other hand. Still, nothing apparent such as casing or display issues, nor does it get hot or anything.

I got my mbp a few weeks ago. The first one I got had frequent kernel panics so I exchanged it. The one I've got now has a few very minor problems. The f2 button does not have the same satisfying "click" as the rest of the buttons, but works fine none-the-less. Also, the thin strip of metal right above the magnetic lid latch release button is slightly bowed out. For some reason that one bothers me, but it doesn't seem to be causing any problems.

My screen is great. No dead pixels and the light leakage is minimal. All lcds, even the extreme high end ones for home theater use have a little leakage. The mbp screen, imo, is easily the best matte finish screen i've seen on a laptop. The slight leakage that it does have is spread fairly uniformly all the way around the edges instead of the super bright inch or so on the bottom that most notebook lcds have.

I think that the weird metal part above the latch release is bowed out on a lot of them. At least, I've heard others complain about it and mine is the same way.

Are the edges flush between your screen and body when it's closed? Is it possible they changed the production technique to help with this and it caused it to bow/not bow (whichever way it went) on a lot of them?

Nope, one side is higher. But one of my hinges is messed up. The right side moves a little. Not sure if this is due to the drop, but I think it was like that before I dropped it.
Only real cosmetic damage I noticed from when I dropped it was the corner by the power adapter, it has a dent. But then again, it could have messed up the hinge.

if you guys are talking about the little metallic strip that is used to open the latch, then mine is fine, it isnt bowed out at all, although, right above the optical drive, where the aluminum meets the grey plastic thing, mine looks like its swelling a little.
    i have the 15inch btw
