Well i read the article on the front page of notebookreview and they said that a very high likley hood that the macbook are gonna get led screens. now my question is this. Will this increase the price? Most of you i have read say yes it will. But when the pro switched it didnt increase the price at all. In fact with the faster cpu and graphics card the price on all the models stayed the same. I dont think apple is gonna replace the current macbook at all due to it being more price friendly with people who cant afford the pro.

Also the article said something about macbook touch. what do you think of that?

Well. It'll probably stay the same price, and eventually the older Macbooks will be discontinued and the newer ones will replace them. As for touch... man that sounds like a tablet notebook. If so, it would be great.

That wasn't hard facts article. That was one person's speculations on what may come. So don't take it as fact.

As for LED screens, I would agree that the likelihood is high. Apple has committed to switching all displays to LED based, so eventually it will be LED backlit. But I'd say it is coming soon, and I would venture to guess that it will not increase the price.

There's been more and more rumours of a smaller, 13.3-inch or smaller Apple MacBook Pro being released for Macworld 2008. I would expect that one to have LED-backlit displays, but yes, the MacBook (if this new ultraportable isn't the MacBook) will probably have LED-backlighting soon, as Apple said it would have its entire lineup to LED-backlighting as soon as possible. I don't expect any price changes.

I have heard that Apple has ordered many 13" LED laptop screens so if the new ultraportable MBP is not 13", the Macbooks will have LED screens.

yeah i know paul. But still an apple macbook touch does sound neat even with iphone tech. Multitouch sounds awesome. The macbooks wont change. Not in my opinion. Everyone seems to love the hardware. And the price of this "ultraportable" will be higher so there is no reason for them to get rid of the current ones.

Well, there have been sightings of a black aluminum laptops at Apple which may be the ultraportable MBP or a new MB. Or it could be a dead end proof-of-concept.

I'm not too enthusiastic about a MacBook refresh though considering the current line would only be 2 months old by the time MacWorld comes around. The addition of LED LCDs within the current enclosure like what the MacBook Pro received, they might be able to get away with, but I think there would be a lot of unhappy customers if Apple released a complete MacBook redesign 2 months after a refresh that encouraged people to buy. It wouldn't cause as big a furor as the iPhone price drop, but I don't think Apple wants a repeat of complaints so soon.

I'm getting the feeling that this rumoured aluminum notebook is most likely a smaller MBP, and not the MacBook replacement. As you noted, the MacBook was just updated in November, so any update so soon would cause lots of complaints and furor.

True that dog. True that. Apple doesnt wanna be known as a company that does stuff like that.

Yeah, exactly. 2 months between the last release is just way too soon.

WWDC is where the MacBook refresh/redesigns are usually, isn't it?

Not unless the MacBook goes professional...WWDC is a developer conference, so usually the professional Macs (Mac Pro, MBP) are the ones that get updates at WWDC. The MacBook usually goes without an event or at a Special Event.
