I am looking at getting the following 13.3" Macbook with Final Cut Express (unless there are other suggestions):
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive
I have a digital camera that makes video in 720p in a .MOV format.
I have AVIs in VGA of my daughter when she was younger and wanted to archive it into a DVD.
My questions are below:
Will the laptop be more than adequate to do video encoding and rendering? OR do I have to resort to a Macbook Pro?
Will Final Cut Express be adequate for what I am doing? Does it handle AVI and .MOV formats?

In my opinion, video editing is not exclusive to the macs although they seem to be preferable to people who do these sorts of things like graphics and videos....I believe the Macbooks should handle these things satisfactorily.....but of course the Pros would be better with the better graphic card and also because you would be dealing with high definition videos which the graphic Intel x3100 in macbook does not fully support (esp. 1080p).....if the new macbooks do come with the new Intel 4500HD....then I would go with the macbooks.....the question is are you going to wait for the rumored release of the macbook line?

Although I own a MBP and prefer it by far over the MB, the MB should be just fine for HD. The 8600GT in the MBP isn't exactly optimized for HD decoding anyway. Much of the work will depend on the CPU and the software. There still isn't a video player for OS X that can handle high bit-rate 1080p, whereas Windows Media Classic on Windoze easily plays it with any Core 2 CPU (except the ULV and MBA versions).

So, will the new MacBook with 2.0 Ghz processor, 2 Gb of RAM, and its upgraded graphics be fine for editing and playing 720p HD material?
-
should be able to handle full 1880HD material, but when it comes to editing no idea.

Hi, I started a thread recently with a similar question. Listening to what people have said about the old Macbook being able to edit HD to a 'satisfactory' level, does that mean the new Macbook (£950 model) will be able to supply a 'higher level' of performance editing material which isn't HDl? I'm new to this and its very confusing for me - Thanks!
EDIT - Forgot to ask, how can I to connect a video camera to a Macbook since they have dropped the firewire port? Can you get adapters?
