The 1TB drive might fit in your DVD drive if you use a caddy.

You could get an external DVD drive.

Get a Seagate 5400.7 640GB if you want capacity, battery life and silence.

Get a Seagate Momentus XT if you want maximum performance.

If your looking for another superdrive to replace the broken one then check the part number on your superdrive (the dvd drive). Also check to see if it connects via pata or sata. I'm googling but I see there are some sata superdrives and others are pata superdrives. I'd hate to lead you in the wrong direction.

*edit: check these out. I believe you have a PATA connection to your superdrive. You'll want to confirm that though.

**edit#2: be sure to determine your Macbook's connection to your superdrive. Especially if you entertain the idea of putting a HDD in there. Those HDDs that have been listed are SATA but I think (not sure) your superdrive bay uses PATA. Some optibay cadies are SATA to SATA while others are PATA to SATA so you want to get the right one.

Ok a little update, i got the macbook. when i turn it on it makes the noise like its turning on but it just stays on the start up screen, either the superdrive or the harddrive makes a spinning noise. i took out the superdrive and it still does it. do i need a new HD ?

disconnect the hard disk also and then turn it on. What do you see?

If you see nothing then you have a problem.

Do you have the Mac OSX dvds? You can try coping them to USB and booting from USB to check if the macbooks works.

if youve removed both the hdd and superdrive then the only thing remaining that would make a sound would be the fan(s). thats actually good cuz its going to be a cheap fix.

why its not booting, i dont know. try booting from a flash drive as suggested. see what happens.

*if you can borrow a compatible superdrive then you could try booting from it with the OS X install disc. Or buy a replacement superdrive. Are you still considering purchasing one?

ok well i found that the hard drive is what is making the noise. But i was told that it should still boot without the hard drive ? that doesnt make much sense to me but im not sure ?

it should try to boot and with no drives should give a no boot device or drive detected error.

hold the option key down when powering up and see what boot devices you get listed, ideally with the optical in place and somesort of bootable CD/DVD ( OSX disk is best )

if you get a permanant hang on the startup screen could be a bad firmware or motherboard
