I have a wonderful iBook G4, but the screen is less than desired. When looking at the screen, the colour display looks faded out.

Is the Macbook display better than the iBook G4 display?

One thing to remember with the iBook G4 is that your screen is going to look faded out because that is what happens to regular CCFL-backlit LCD's over time. I have a similar old iBook and it's display is much duller now than when it first came out.

A new MacBook would definitely have a better display than what you currently have (and it is also glossy, so would probably look a bit more vibrant). But when the MacBook is as old as your iBook, it could also fade.

This is actually one of the biggest benefits of the new LED-backlit displays, as they will not fade out like the old CCFL backlit displays. Right now these are available on MacBook Pros, Sony SZ's, Asus U1F's, Dell XPSM1330's and a few other machines.

Apple has already said that they will be moving all of their machines eventually over to LED-backlighting, and other companies like HP have also promised as much. Eventually it will become the standard.

I can't speak for the iBook G4 display.

However, the macbook display has horrible black levels due to backlight bleeding on the bottom of the screen. In a dark room, the black looks gray in some areas. In daylight conditions, it looks fine.

to but it simply, **** yeah!

Not all Macbook displays have light bleeding at the edges, i have seen a large number of perfect Macbook displays and they are far beyond what they were offering on the iBooks.
