It's probably many months away. The MBA just had a major refresh 3 mos ago.
We're still in the first quarter, maybe the beginning of the second of this cycle. The only indication that a minor refresh might happen within the next few, say half dozen, months is the recent spec bump that occurred on the Pros. But I wouldn't count on it.

Buy the computer when you need it or want it. Chasing cycles just is a waste.

Would be nice to see a refresh for the Air as well. Presume they are waiting for the amd 7xxx gpu's and ivy bridge cpu's dew in march sometime next year.

the macbook air isn't going to get an AMD gpu any time soon. It's just going to use the ivy bridge integrated solution.

Don't count on it. I'd say the next major MacBook Air/MacBook Pro refresh will come around late summer or early fall of next year, just in time for the back to school crowd. Apple usually adopts new chipsets four to six months, if not more, after they are released.

The reason I am asking is that I just sold my 5 year old MacBook pro and now am looking to replace the itch for osx but I always like to have an idea as to how old the product is since I do keep them foreever.

I will probably get one soon but let's see the wife and I just bought a house too.

Well, as others have said, a major refresh isn't going to happen for a while and anything between now and then is likely just going to be a small spec bump. In other words, if Apple updates the MBA, they will go from a 1.7GHz processor to a 1.8 or 1.9GHz processor. Small stuff like that which was recently observed with the 13" MBP spec bump refresh.

A major refresh probably won't come until the Ivy Bridge platform is released by Intel and that isn't set to come out until around summer of 2012 (that is according to Intel roadmap slides that were leaked). Now, I keep using the words "probably" and "likely" because it is impossible to predict what Apple will do. Nobody truly knows what Apple will do until they officially announce it. They could very well come out with a major refresh by the end of the year if they wanted to. I don't believe that will happen as the current MBA is only 3 months old. Either way, I think you will be safe if you wanted to purchase one now. Otherwise I would wait until next year when Ivy Bridge comes out and then take the plunge. That way, if you are going to wait, it will at least be for more than a minor spec bump but rather to a whole processor and chipset series.

Agreed, I am excited with the idea, but I will wait until I get back to the states to make the decision (I still have my t410s alive and kicking)
