How do you replace or upgrade the hard drive in the original, "Late 2008" and "Mid-2009" MacBook Air? Can you swap the hard drive for an SSD? @ EveryMac.com

i have already an 1.8 inch ssd but i dont have the ZIF. Can i order a ZIF cable so i can connect it?
-
I cant seem to find cables, just multiple forums on how to mod and build your own. it is a propriatory LIF -sata cable only used in that revision of the MBA. you could contact OWC and see uf they will sell you a cable alone.

if there is room yes, but its been awhile since I was in one, and i honestly think it will take too much space. there is 0 clearance from hdd and fan assembly for it.

without that cable, or else the know-how to combine a sata ribbon cable and that pesky original your dead in the water. I tried numerous searches etc and OWC seems to be the only ones that still have those cables. as I said before e-mail them and see if they will sell the cable only

This is the cable that i need i can't find it anywhere!! i called owc but they told me that they don't sell it i have to buy the ssd also -
yes that is OWC's cable but I am unaware of anyone actually making that cable anymore except them. the only other alternative I am aware of is to use the pinout in the link I gave above, where they soldered directly to the SSD circuit board.

any ideas where else to check?
-
No idea, for awhile OWC and a company in Vancouver B.C. were the only two companies that made those cables. I think OWC is the ONLY source if them mow as the MBA rev B is pretty much EOL for any upgrades for a couple years.
your best bet and possibly only options are to just purchase OWC's kit or find someone who can build/mod a cable for you -
yeah or i'll try to sell my current ssd and buy a new one
