Hey Guys I have been very busy with other forums so i have not been around (just bought a NEW G35, so i have been there figuring out the best deal and all)...

Just wanted to buy my GF a new Macbook, and was wondering if this is a good time, or should i wait for a new model?

Please let me know if this is a good time or not.

Also did anyone notice apple's website is down??

Their website seems to fine right now.

As for buying a MacBook now... I think now is as good of a time as any; I don't think we'll see updates to the MacBook for at least a few months... August maybe, but that's just speculation.

Are you talking about the Macbook or the Girlfriend? ;)

Sorry, lame joke. I saw an opportunity :p.

I think any updates will be presented in June, and will apply to the MBP first, and then later on (around August) they will incorporate it into the MB, so I would suggest you just buy now.

Some believe a new model of the MacBook is coming this summer (with the Montevina chipset release), though this hasn't been confirmed. The MB will undoubtedly be updated with this chipset sometime, but it may not be for a while. As I always recommend: if you need a computer now...buy it! :)

I've been asking around about this exact same question. The general response is "if you need a computer now, then buy a computer now." It seems to me that people could care less about whether I buy one now and a new one comes out in a couple months. On the other hand, my fiance would be pissed if I bought one for her now and then it went out of style in only a few short months. Therefore, I will be waiting until this summer.

    [Warning: Rumors]
Also, the only negative thing I've heard about the MB and MBP is that the edge of the case cuts into your wrist when typing for long periods of time. Supposedly, this issue will be addressed with the new case. Someone in another forum said that it should have a beveled/rounded edge like the iPods do. Could be just a rumor so take it with a grain of salt, but I thought it was worth noting.
Another issue that will supposedly be addressed is the case of the new MB will be made of aluminum and have a backlit keyboard.

I think that the core reason why people say 'if you need it now, buy it now', is due to the fact that Apple is notoriously close-mouthed concerning what will be coming in future updates. Sure, people are talking about how neat it would be to have a new aluminum macbook, but they've been talking about how cool it would be to have an apple tablet for even longer!

The nicest thing about macs is that they retain their value far better than most PCs - if a new macbook comes out after you just bought one, and you are thus disappointed in your purchase, sell it and get the new macbook. If, however, you don't really *need* a notebook (i.e. the one you have works fine/you're thinking of getting one as a new gadget) then the longer you wait the better the technology will be.

One thing that I will note: If Apple does do a refresh of the macbook, and in the process introduces a lot of new features, I'd avoid it if I could. Version one releases from Apple tend to be a bit buggy, and rarely maximize the potential - you'll pay extra money to release it because of Apple's accounting procedures.
