I have a 2008 before unibody pretty much outdated macbook pro, and Ive been leaning towards a new windows laptop...but I saw my friends dual boot windows 7 macbook pro 2010 and it looked sharp...Now im leaning back towards mac as an update possibly the 17" MBPRO with ultimate dual boot...
Thing is are there any updates RIGHT on the horizon?
-
I doubt it since they got the i7 just a couple of months back.
-
Yea, highly unlikely. And even if they do, they're going to be almost the same specs since Intel doesn't have any huge releases for new processors coming out (just faster clock speeds in iX's).
-
not until next Spring at the earliest.
-
Good time to buy then...upgrade my 2008 pre-unibody.
How are the 17" MBPROs with windows 7? I would dual boot, or run fusion or one of those programs. -
from what I've heard they work fine, but battery life really isn't fantastic on them.
-
Guess we will find out soon enough, thinking of ordering the basic configuration.
-
If you're looking for 15" MBP I just found a refurb 2 days ago with the basic config but a hi-res anti-glare screen. Great deal if you can find them. I set up a page update checker in Chrome and snagged one when they updated the page. It was only up on the site for an hour. Woo hoo! It arrives in hours
-
I love my new i7 Unibody, but I have noticed a horrible decline in battery life... If only they released a new MBP13 with a i5 and Hi-Res Aniglare... I would be all over that.
-
Plus the update is 90% to just be a CPU hz bump. -
-
I don't know there might be more significant changes in the next MBP because they are introducing the Lion OS, and 2008 MBP might be fine until then.
Of course I don't really have any concrete information beyond that. -
Lion isn't scheduled until Summer '11.
If you're needing a new computer now, that's quite a long time to wait.
I'd be willing to bet things are going to get a pretty good once-over around the time Lion is slated to release though. iPad v2 should be released at that point, and they'll be able to focus on polishing the Mac lines before they integrate Lion's iOS-friendly features with the rest of the family. -
They aint gonna refresh it soon. As someone above said it is likely summer of 2011.
Most likely they will finally get rid of the optical drive. I would not be suprised to see them do something like a dual SSD + storage drive combo, or secure an exclusive deal on some huge capacity SSD's and offer those as as standard. -
Yay! That would mean anyone that uses an optical drive will have to pay not only for the laptop itself, but also for a USB disk drive.
Yay for more expenses and inconvenience. -
But I kind of equate it to the people that got mad when modems were removed from internal... or if no RJ45 port is on there... anything that isn't built in that needs an adapter or external device is fine with me if there is a good reason.... a good reason does involve if the majority of people do not want to pay for something in their machine they do not want. Just because some people still want them, doesn't mean everyone should be forced to buy one. -
-
People who don't want/need an optical drive should buy Air's. I personally use my drive daily.
-
I don't think any of us have the data to support wether or not most people would want one.
-
-
Im just gonna get an ipad for now....wait to see what 2011 brings.
-
With four laptops in the house (including my work system), that's four optical drives. Why on earth would I need a fifth optical drive when I haven't used in months any of the four I already have???
Yeah, that makes so much sense. -
Given when the ipad came out, it's ripe for an update in late 1Q11. -
-
Just like when they started removing Floppy drives people moaned saying its stupid to remove it cuz they have a buncha floppies... well one day there will be no optical drive built in, so you might as well start getting used to it now. -
IBM/Lenovo and Dell have done this for years. Swap out the optical drive for a 2nd hard drive (like an optibay) or an extra battery. Or leave the bay open. Simple and easy. Even hot swappable on recent models.
The success of optibay type devices makes is clear there's demand in the marketplace. I understand Apple may not wish to mess with the design ethic and support this concept; but I can still wish they'd change their mind since it does make sense. -
Instead of screwing someone who wants an optical drive or not, they should give the option through their online store to have it removed and have the space reserved for another HDD or something. But the optical drive is still going strong so the floppy drive reference is not really fitting (considering Apple and several companies have yet to upgrade to BluRay, which will likely be the next step in optical data storage). Too many people use them for Apple to remove them without backlash.
Macbook Pro refresh anytime soon?
