I'm thinking about switching to Mac, should I get a MBP now or wait a little longer? I like the MBP because it's the lightest, and thinnest 15.4" laptop with 8600M GT. I do like the new OS X too. If apple is going to redesign the form of MBP soon, I would rather wait.

There are rumours of an ultralight macbook next year. So if you don't need one right away, wait to see what happens in January.

ultralight won't have the 8600m gt.

however, if you want it now, get it now, if you want it in january, wait for janunary and expect some improvements to: processor speed, heat, battery life, but nothing major and no new graphics card.

Apple likes to keep its products very secretive so we won't know until Apple releases the product. However, the MBP is supposed to get Penryn processors sometime in January so I would wait if I were you.

Its hard to say when Apple will redesign the MBP...it certainly is due for one, but it could happen anytime (I mean, it should've happened already :p). The next expected MBP update is in early 2008, with Intel Penryn, but yeah, we don't know if that comes along with a redesign.

As they always say, buy when you need it. Since its so close to 2008 already, I would wait, unless you really need it now.

What if there's a good deal? My only concern is if the Jan update will have a new design or not, the Penryn is not that important to me.

I recommend waiting. Just wait till January and see if whatever is unveiled appeals to you rather than rushing into buying right before something that you may want more comes out... I think that is the smartest way to approach this.
