The MacBook Pro is going to run hot no matter what, generally, so yes, it will get hot. I'd definitely recommend running it with a cooling pad or something.

i have had some time to see how the macbook pro is for gaming. it does get VERY hot, i don't know if your finger would burn after five seconds, but your instinct will definantly tell you to pull away. prolonged contact WILL, not might, cause burns. when i gamed with them, they weren't on cooling pads, but i think a cooling pad would help alot. I would rule out doing pretty much anything on your lap, let alone gaming...

The top of the MBP (I mean, the keyboard and surrounding area) should probably be fine; it's more the bottom that may or may not get too hot (it does seem like this seems to vary a bit from model to model). As long as you use some sort of cooling pad for the bottom, you should be fine.

    Hey,
I have a 2.0Ghz Macbook pro with the 256mb graphics, card. When I play games in windows parts of the machine gets warm, but nothing like the things that have been said. The hottest part when gaming is the small strip of metal right above the keyboard, but when do you touch that? Right now the machine is very cool, and when gaming the heat is not a problem and you would not burn yourself.

Interesting. I think one big thing is that heat issue isn't a univeral problem. It definitely seems like some MBP's have more of a problem than others (I've even noticed this at the Apple store, where some MBP's are warm but still well within reason on the bottom, while others are really uncomfortably hot on the bottom).

Yes it will get hot when you game. Yes it will get hot when you aren't gaming. No you should not use it on your lap for extended period. No you should not touch it when it's hot. Yes you should get a cooling pad.
