Just wondering, I am replacing a Dell XPS m1530 , which I think was a great laptop. So my question is does the Unibody Macbook Pro have better speaker quality over the Dell? Though I am sure not a lot of people on this forum came form a Dell XPS m1530 , but I thought I would try.

Yes, even the prev gen MBP has better speakers than the M1530.

Toshibas seem to be the only brand that has better speakers.

I was very surprised when I first heard the speakers on my MacBook Pro. They get very loud and have a pretty full, clear sound for laptop speakers. Compare that to tinny, dull speakers that don't get loud enough to be heard in a quiet room half of the time on any of Dell's laptop.

Still, laptop speakers generally aren't as good as proper dedicated 5.1 or 2.1 sound systems or a good pair of earphones.

The Macbook Pro Unibody has plenty of other benefits (excellent workmanship, OSX, good service) and a few drawbacks (price, lack of games, very reflective screens). I would hardly buy a laptop on the basis of how good it sounds.

The sound on my 17" MBP is decent for a notebook computer. It still does not beat a good pair of cans or bookshelf speakers.

for the record, it doesnt even beat an average pair of 2.1 headphones or speakers.

still one of the best notebook speakers though.

I really like the unibody speakers, actually I compared the sound quality/volume with my old LG notebook and with my friends notebooks (vaio, dell, and even some toshibas) and it is way much better!

apple computer speaker is clear and not muffled. i'am happy with my (not unibody) 17" MBP speaker, and casually i dont mind listening to its built in speaker. it is even better than other laptop speaker with built in "sub-woofer". the only better speaker i heard is from the Toshiba 17" QOSMIO series.

Apparently the new Unibody MBPs have subwoofers in them? Locate under the right speaker grille?

Or, at least, that's what people have been saying. I'm not so sure.
