I am looking to buy one of the older models of MBP as a beater to my unibody.

    I have found two:

one is a 2.0 ghz Core Duo and the other is a 2.16 ghz core 2 duo. THe core duo is cheaper.

But did the C2D models undergo any internal design changes to the original CD models?

I used to own a 2.16 ghz C2D so I can attest to their very good heat dissipation, but not sure about the CD.

C2D is supposedly 10% faster than the same speed CD , other changes like improved power saving and 64 bit as some early CD cpu`s are 32bit only.

If you can find out exacty what processor is in the 2 notebooks you can look at the benchmark list below.
