    Hey All,

I just picked up a beautiful new Macbook Pro. Such a gorgeous machine, I am looking into some cover to protect it. I heard about how body acid erodes the aluminium and how the cover dent and scratches easily.

The two types of protection I am looking into are: Speck or Incase hardcover vs. Apple Peelz.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with both or either that could give their 2 cents.

    Thanks!

I haven't had experience with either of the covers you are talking about, but I would say that if I were you I wouldn't buy any cover or protector that covers the keyboard.

The keyboards on the macbook lineup (even the Pros) are nice, and used partially as a heatsink so covering it is NOT recommended.

Also, with the MBP, the whole AL case is a heatsink, so don't buy a cover that will not let the heat escape because you would be doing more damage than protection to your machine!!!

    Hope this helps! :)

Well I have a speck case, and it does wonders for protecting my MBP.

When I look at it, theres a lot of scratches and stuff that are on the case, and my MBP is fine. Being a student can have some bad results on laptops, but the case helped out a lot.

Although I must say, it adds about 3mm onto the dimensions, and it makes it a bit heavier. But there almost always has to be come comprises.

I've got a Speck cover for my 17" MBP, and yes it add's a bit of weight and makes it a little more cumbersome to carry, but I'm a fairly strong dude so I dont notice or mind it. As for protection - its top notch. The bottom is vented and dissipates the heat quite nicely (I've had it only my lap to see how it did, and my legs barely were warm). Someone actually put up an EXCELLENT review of the Speck cover, and its what led me to purchase it. Do a search and you should find the review if you're interested

**Removing the cover is also very easy - I take it off about twice a week and wipe down the inside in case any dust/grit gets in there**

Yea, it really does help with the heat. I recently just took my off for a long time, and using it on my lap and in general its really hot, compared to when I have the speck case on, with the speck it really cuts down on the external heat of the laptop.

Although they make a lot of colours of the case, so make sure you get whatever colour you want. My apple store only had clear, but I wanted black. But I only paid 1/2 price for it, so I don't mind.

probably the same stuff that's used to protect hood edges on cars from rock chips or often put over MX number plates. if it's the same, it's pretty tough stuff.
