I have noticed that the macbook pros have some sort of weak hinge. Is this problem also happening with the current macbook pros (June2009 versions)?

Could you explain a bit more? What do you mean by weak hinge?

Meaning that the hinge automatically falls down when you pick it up, or put at a 45-90 degree angle while holding it upside down. I see it people showing it on youtube.

Most laptops have a spring mechanism that finally brings the lid down when it is 80% closed, but many laptop lids will fall if the unit is held upside down (which is a dumb test that proves nothing, to be frank).

Weak hinges are obvious when the lid wobbles or moves backwards and forwards while doing ordinary tasks such as typing, or perhaps in a moving train/airplane.

    *Sigh* Here we go.

The person on youtube doing the hinge test by holding it upside down is an idiot. That's not even a valid test.

Here's a live test for ya, go to Best Buy and try to open any of their laptops with only one finger, one hand. How many of those laptops had their base raise up while trying to open the lid? How many creaked, and stiff hinges like a rusty gate? I would say probably 100% of them.

Now try opening the macbook with one hand. Base stays put where it should, no noise, smooth hinge and opens like butter. This makes for a superior hinge and I have not seen this implemented in ANY pc laptop that I've tried, even the Dell Adamo

When I lift the lid on my clevo the base stays in place. But the base also weighs about 6 pounds... As far as I know only the pre-unibody 13inch macbooks had hinge problems(and a lot of other build quality issues). And those issues seem to be fixed in the unibodies except for some heat problems.

If the hinge in too strong it will put too much strain on the case and could case problems, as said above the upside down test is stupid.

yes it's not a feasible test and apple also advises us to use our notebooks on the table and i don't see NASA putting macs aboard their shuttles. so no need for this test.

Compared to the old Macbook Pros, the new Unibodies do indeed have a looser hinge.

I've recently purchased a Speck SeeThru Satin case for my Unibody and I feel the hinge is even looser to the touch.

It doesn't necessarily bother me, I'm just noticing the fact.

I think you're right about the Unibody, it is looser I believe.

Since you are adding weight to the lid by using a speck case, its probably gonna make the hinge feel looser.

The uMBPs feels looser because the added weight of the glass on the lid. I bet if the old MBPs had the same glass displays they would feel just as loose.
