ok we'll i've had my macbook pro for 2 weeks now, and for some strange reason i wake up today, open my comp, and notice right where my right palm is while tying, that there seems to me like a wet spot, or jsut a spot that is not the same color hs my machine.

its not easy to tell but u can notice it if u look at it. is there anyhting i can do to get rid of this spot, does like using lysol or just running a damp cloth over it get it fo the spot??

id take pictures but u cant really see it in them

this is exactly why i got the Marware Protection pack for macbook pros. It comes with a piece that covers the entire palmrest area.

i wouldnt know how to get rid of the discoloration, but if it gets worse you should try to see if apple can do anything about it.

 Never ever use strong cleaning agents or solvents on home electronics. You will cause more problems than what you started with. My suggestion is this first try and determine what the discoloration is from? Is it from oils or dirt on your palms and the heat from the MBP that maybe discolored the palm rest? Have you called Apple to see if they are aware of any problems. I know that on the macnn.com forums some have complained about Macbook discoloration on the palm rest. I would try that first.

If you have no choice but to try and clean it yourself I would try a good ol' fashioned damp cloth with lukewarm water and try and see if it clears up the discoloration. If that doesn't work try a small dab of rubbing alcohol.

If the problem still exist go to Walmart or any Dollar store and look for orange wipes. I use them all the time and they work great. It's citrus based and cleans off most common dirt on just about everything thing.

The Macbook discoloration issues were because of the plastic, whereas the MBP is aluminium - so even if there was an issue (which I haven't heard of for MBP at least), it wouldn't be related to the Macbook issue.

I'd guess it's just something from your palms that rubbed off, try what Rodknee suggested above. If you can't get rid of it (and please, stay away from cleaning agents) and it really bothers you, see if there's an Apple Store or authorized service provider near you that can look at it.

Ya, I wouldn't be worried yet. I noticed right away that the aluminum case likes to attract grease marks, which can be hard to remove if you simply try to rub it with something dry. But a dab of spit or water, maybe some of that fancy spray they sell at Apple stores... It'll come right off.

Try washing your hands before using it :p

Sounds like your palms are dirty, which can transfer to the aluminum. :p

I've had mine for over 6 months, with heavy use, and I've not seen that problem. When it does get dirty (when I forget to clean my hands) wiping it with a damp cloth works very well.

Let me get this straight, the discoloration is not the finish on the MBP fading away? Its just the sweat and oils from our hands? I thought it was the finish fading, and bought the marware kit. Oh well, better safe than sorry.

i would recommend getting the marware protection kit. its like $20 from the apple store and is worth it. you will never have to worry about discoloration again...or at least it wont get worse.

I still have my Aluminum Powerbook as well as a MPB. The stains have been wiped off with a damp rag, but sometimes I use a mild soapy solution if the stain is stubborn, but the rag is DAMP; not wet. Immediately I wipe the surface with a dry towel in a lightly buffing manner. Both my laptops still look new, but I assume no responsibility if you try my method.
