I just put in my second stick or ram in my new MBP core 2 duo bringing the total to 2gb. However, where is the third ram slot?

Also, how do you install a new hard drive in the mbp c2d?

No laptop has more than 2 RAM slots...they come in pairs as well so there can't be a 3rd slot without a 4th.

The only way to get 3GB is to have 2GB + 1GB sticks.

OMG, haha. My bad. Here is a video I found on how to install a hard drive on the core duo mbp.

While I was watching it, I was thinking how could they fit in a third ram slot? Haha.

Hrm, out of curiosity, won't it actually run slower with a 2gb and a 1gb?

That will make the system run in single channel mode, thus slow it down. But would that create a significant difference in speed?

Intel chipsets have a "Intel Flex Memory Technology" feature that allow different RAM sizes to be installed while still maintaining dual channel functionality. I'm assuming Apple chose to implement this feature. In any case, the performance won't be quite as good as real dual channel.

That said, that lack of dual channel support isn't going to be a huge performance differentiator since Meroms only have a 667MHz FSB anyways and in theory, one channel of DDR2 667 memory is enough to saturate the FSB. Dual channel is really more important for the MacBook since the GMA 950 can use all the bandwidth it can get.
