I am looking for a laptop bag for my MBP. Was hoping to get some suggestios here. Preferably I would like to stay away from Messenger bags since they tend to hurt my shoulders.

I have this. It's the Mamba Pack by Booq. Very well made, it's cheaper now, I bought it a year and a half ago, way back when the 2.2ghz c2d mbp with 128mb 8600gt was all the rage, back then it set me back $195 I think. It still looks like new, nothing's torn apart and I use it now with my 13" mbp.

I definitely recommend it to anyone. The price is worth it for the longevity. If you want real life pictures just ask and I'll post some.

This is a review I did for another Booq bag that I currently use for my 17" (bottom of the page). There is a version for the 15" as well. It is in the messenger style I suppose, but its very comfortable.

The Mamba pack that 00fez has is the other bag that I was considering. I think its real nice...and its a backpack.

If weight gets to your shoulder(s) w/ messenger bags, that backpack by Booq might just be the best option out there.

FWIW, if you (or lurkers) are also interested in briefcase-style bags, Waterfield makes a lightweight bag specifically for MB/MBP/MBA called the Racer-X. Not for the light of wallet, but comes with lifetime guarantee and the guy who answers your phone calls is the owner. Rare these days, to say the least.

I've got their "cargo combo," which is <s> great</s> the best messenger I've ever owned. But you're not shopping for messengers, so...

Seems a bit big though, at 3.4lbs. Was looking for something a bit more smaller so that even if i don't carry around a 15.4" laptop I can just use it to carry around books and stuff without it looking huge.

The weight is par for the course for a soft bag with a few bits & bobs inside. Barring a pocketed / handled sleeve you're not going to find anything that much lighter.

I highly recommend this to you: http://goincase.com/products/detail/nylon-backpack-cl55105

I have several friends that use it and I am always jealous. It's perfect for holding a bunch of other stuff and it's available in the traditional backpack of the "sling" style backpack. I have two friends that took them to Europe for a month and they came back looking brand new.
